As an Electrical Project Engineer, you may have the opportunity to:
Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead, providing project coordination, guidance, and technical expertise on assigned substation projects.
Support a range of substation projects up to 765kV, including detailed engineering design and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
Develop protection and control design deliverables, including protective relays, panel arrangements, one-line/single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring, and equipment wiring for high-voltage substations.
Develop physical design deliverables such as yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
Perform or oversee quality reviews of electrical substation design packages.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction.
Coordinate and communicate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
Present proposals, designs, and project updates.
Travel, as needed, to client and vendor offices or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination, and field verification.
Prepare and manage design budgets and schedules.
Support business development and pursuit activities.
This opportunity is based at the organizations World Headquarters in Overland Park, KS (Kansas City).
Continues to develop technical knowledge and may provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and company policies.
Independently applies engineering knowledge while complying with quality programs and may be responsible for ensuring adherence to quality requirements.
Prepares engineering deliverables for large or multiple projects, including research, equipment/material recommendations, calculations, and data management.
Manages assigned budgets, schedules, and quality requirements while applying advanced engineering techniques and analytical methods.
Delegates work appropriately to develop team capabilities and reviews lower-level engineering work.
May lead production teams, coordinate multi-discipline activities, or serve as responsible charge for projects.
Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders on moderately complex projects.
Assists in identifying client interests and project drivers, ensuring alignment with technical execution.
Recognized as a technical specialist capable of consulting on complex engineering challenges and mentoring project teams.
Supports performance management, mentoring, career development, and succession planning.
May assist with engineering resource management for small discipline groups.
Ensuring effective implementation and communication of policies, procedures, and processes.
Ensuring compliance with corporate and division programs.
Approving timesheets and expense reports.
High-voltage (HV) substation design experience (Physical and/or Protection & Controls).
Project lead and technical specialist experience with utility substation projects.
QA/QC review experience.
Strong coordination and communication skills with clients, multidisciplinary leads, and project managers.
Professional Engineer (PE) License.
Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
